'Grounding' is a concept that has continued to appeal to me since I heard about it a few years ago. The ability to send 'bad energy' away and have it recycled and returned as 'good energy', or to have a sense of some sort of 'connection' with the life-preserving Earth has been something that I've always felt was of great importance to achieve. In addition the sense of stability that this technique can give would be a useful resource for many of the Lab Personnel that find it difficult to remain in a 'relaxed' and present state.
Usually the process of grounding seems to involve sending an 'energy beam' to the Earths core, or imagining yourself as a tree with roots reaching down into the center of the Earth.
I didn't have a lot of success with these exercises so I decided I needed to 'get back to basics' a bit and deconstruct just what grounding is supposed to do.
We can define the grounding visualisation as a set of symbols, the purpose of which is to generate a specific resourceful mind/body state. The idea is that we do the exercises
(such as: pretending to be a tree) in consciousness, and then some part of the mind translates or 'converts' the symbols into bits of an internal process that ultimately generates the grounded state. Presumably it does this translation or conversion based on known meanings and associations, so the basic grounding exercises rely on people having a certain set of mental 'tools' or understandings. If they happen to have not developed or acquired the necessary tools, or have learnt things in a different way, then the mind may misunderstand or ignore the grounding exercise. Assuming that all subconscious resources automatically understand what you're trying to achieve consciously just because you're all in the same mind is not a reliable assumption to make, in my experience.
Generally speaking, instructions that effectively allow you to achieve a result do so by communicating to you the minimum steps required - the key actions that make the results happen. This is the critical path where any deviation, any omission leads to failure. Strictly speaking, this would seem to imply that the standard grounding exercises are not the 'critical path', they are making assumptions about the information people are holding internally, and in my case this has meant that I've not been able to achieve 'grounding'.
So anyway, what exactly is grounding? Well, if we were to ask someone who is grounded 'how do you know that you are grounded', then perhaps the answer might be 'because my energy has been cleared' or 'because I have a connection with the Earth', which is okay, but is more of a high level analysis of what is going on. If we drill down (so to speak) and ask 'How do you know that your energy has been cleared / you're connected to the Earth' then the answer would probably be 'because I can feel it'. So to start us off we can say that a successful 'grounding' is associated with a particular feeling.
The 'mythology' of grounding contains many stories and variations on the theme: the Earth has a 'pro-life' image which perhaps can be tapped into to provide health benefits, there are stories of grounded individuals being physically stronger or even immoveable, and further commentaries exist on the benefits of additional connections with a 'higher self' or with the Sun.
However, for the purposes of this initial discussion we will be focussing only on the internal feeling of being grounded. The more specific we can make our goal the quicker we should be able to get results.
At this early stage I will also be making the assumption that 'grounding' and 'centering' are functionally similar. I would imagine that as things progress the two different metaphors of grounding and centering would begin to yield differing results, but for the moment we will say that they are just two different perspectives allowing a view of the same thing.
I will also be moving away from this idea of 'bad energy' being sent to the Earth for recycling. This comes across as something of a 'fluid' metaphor where if you have 'bad energy' you need to pipe it away somewhere, and in this case I don't see this metaphor as being particularly useful. This might also lead to a kind of 'landfill mentality': on one extreme this might actually manifest in an unspoken belief that we can just dump waste into the Earth and it can effortlessly recycle it all. I'm also a little concerned that this metaphor might influence people to give up personal ownership and responsibility for confronting and resolving negative situations for themselves. I remain cautious regarding the possible side effects of some of these metaphors on how we make sense of our lives. A metaphor represents information (or 'learnings') that can cross between contexts but may not always be appropriate and useful in a given context or life situation.
If we start to drift over to an 'information' metaphor we can say very simply that any state or feeling that is not useful (previously referred to as 'bad energy') can be 'overwritten' by the creation of an appropriate resourceful state. We don't really need anywhere to 'send' the unwanted state to, and we don't really need anywhere to get resourceful states and feelings from. These things are all generated and maintained internally.
For the moment, however, I will retain the contrivance of an 'energy connection' simply as a useful tool to more clearly specify where the resourceful state is being modelled from.
My first real step in the 're-discovery' of grounding will be to 'brainstorm' just what the term means to me, in an effort to build up knowledge about the way my mind stores and interprets information about the concept of grounding.
We can also notice that 'grounding' is functionally identical to an invocation of, or attuning to, the 'spirit of the Earth'. Another alternative would be to model
someone (or something) that has already achieved a 'grounded' state.

Stele 13 initial translation
The newest stele discovered in the southern atrium.
|
This is by far the smallest stele discovered. It contains simply this single
image with two lines of symbols that would appear to represent
"This is the portal (or gateway) to the Beloved Land of Black Earth."
There seems no explanation of how the image is a 'gateway' or anything else about it.
The rest of the stele is completely blank, whether by design or not
we cannot tell.

"I need to know about Delta Labs. The cancellation of funding, the accidents, the illnesses - it all started after we beat Delta for ownership of the new dig site."
"What do you know of the work being done in the Delta Laboratories?"
"Well, little beyond the official line. Matter transfer of some kind."
"Ostensibly the main project is the instantaneous transfer of matter across great distances. The equipment they are using for these systems comes from many sources, including the 'Montauk Project' and 'Project Rainbow'. It's important that you realise that the teleportation that they seek is actually a fairly minor capability of some of that equipment. The devices are what you might call 'psychoactive' in that they respond to and feed back into the minds of the people around them. What you have been experiencing in these Laboratories over the last few months is the result of people with bad feelings about Phobos Labs using the Delta equipment."
"What do you mean?"
"The equipment resonates with imagery and beliefs held in the mind, allowing a quality of one-pointed awareness and coherence normally reserved to competent meditators, martial artists or magicians. This is all magnified by the equipment giving a good quality 'rapport'-style link regardless of the distance to the target.
Basically the bad feeling that some of the personnel at Delta have been feeling towards Phobos Labs has been concentrated and projected by the equipment there.
So whereas the matter transfer is in effect a kind of 'spatial rapport', or 'similarity' between two distant points, in this case it's the self-destructive impulses that are being 'teleported' to Phobos rather than any material object. I believe that this is not entirely accidental."
"Not entirely accidental?"
"Yes. Some effects of these machines have been well documented, yet it appears
that someone has chosen to ignore certain known safety aspects.
By design I would have to say."
"What are the limits of these machines when it comes to actual manipulation
of physical reality?"
"It's difficult to tell. The strong psychological vector
means that hallucinations and their ilk are extremely common, so
first hand accounts of results cannot be relied upon.
Physical evidence from previous test areas does suggest that
supposedly 'impossible' physical events have occurred
under the influence of that style of equipment.
You might beneficially consider their equipment to represent an extremely powerful but
difficult to control variation of the Magician Paradigm."
"I don't see how people are supposed to safely use that kind of equipment. Anything could happen."
"Yes, only specially trained individuals should be anywhere near it.
The possibility that they could be using this equipment in ignorance of it's true potential
did concern me. It would appear now that someone there could be using these devices with some deliberate purpose that is clearly not just teleportation. In any case you would be wise not to antagonise Delta until such time as you develop some immunity to the effects of their equipment."
"I was considering using the Remote Viewing teams to target Delta. I can see that would be a bad idea, it might even be dangerous for them."
"It would. You should, however, make the Remote Viewing project known to Alpha Labs. I believe they could have some use for this kind of expertise. On your next report to the Board you should also make some mention of the possible recuperative benefits of your proposed training program."
"We're not actually planning to focus on anything like therapy or post-trauma work."
"You don't need to. You just need to mention it in your report.
Shortly after the Board reviews your report, an elite covert operations unit will be sent on a mission that will go badly wrong, resulting in fatalities. They will be sent here, initially for fresh training but you should endeavour to keep them based here."
"Fatalities?"
"Events are already in motion. We cannot prevent this from happening, we can only steer the inevitable in a more favourable direction."
"Shouldn't we be involving one of the Overwatch Executive Groups instead?
Surely they can clear up this situation with Delta?"
"And tell them what? That Delta Labs are projecting bad vibes?
By the time foul play is evident it will be too late, I'm afraid.
Phobos Labs are the only people who can recognise and categorise the
nature of the threat in time to do anything about it.
Consider all this... a safeguard. Perhaps I worry unduly.
For now, however, you would be wise not to let Delta Labs realise the full effect their
equipment is having.
I fear that confrontation with Delta is inevitable, though what form that confrontation will take and what means you ultimately have to prevail is entirely down to you."
"What should we do?"
"Continue with your work. Open up the new dig site. Expand your training. Coaching police officers, athletes and business executives is all very well, but you have within your grasp the tools to investigate fundamental questions about the source and nature of humanities powers and relationship to the Universe.
What you find out may be enough. It must be enough."
"I still don't understand what we're supposed to do about Delta. Their facilities, funding and support dwarf anything we have here at Phobos."
"Use this to your advantage. Because of
the small size of the Phobos installations and the non-mechanical nature of the
work you do here they may not appreciate your significance.
At least until it's too late, hopefully."
"And how are we supposed to actually stop them?"
"The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world."
